Setting the 3rd fastest time ever in the 50 km Race walk with a time of 3 h 34' 38" in 2015.  

First gold medal for Slovakia

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Matej Tóth won the first gold medal in athletics for Slovakia, since its independence in 1993.
