World Athletics news  of 14 June 2004: Denis Nizhegorodov sets 50 km race walk world record !

In Cheboksary, the Russian Race walking capital, Denis Nizhegorodov improved the world 50 km record to 3 h 35' 39".
However, his world record was not recognized due to the absence of a doping control test.
Second behind Nizhegorodov in Russian national championships, was Vladimir Potemin with 3: 39:34

Highlight 

At the IAAF World Race walking Cup in Cheboksary 2008, Denis Nizhegorodov reached a new career highlight by completing the queen's number over 50 km in a new world record: 3 h 34' 14". Hats off, Mr. Nizhegorodov !   

Superhuman Nizhegorodov held the world record over 50 km distance until Yohann Diniz of France broke it in Zurich at the 2014 European Championships.

He ended his great sports career in 2017.
